Top Tip for New Writers: "Never stop writing"

Hi Tori, thank you for taking the time to speak to us!

When did you realize you were pagan?

I was 12 years old when my grandmother gave me my first tarot deck. It was a Rider Waite deck with traditional imagery and a tiny little guidebook to help me learn my cards. That was my jumping off point, where I realized that my beliefs didn't align with most of the other people around me. That's when I began my pagan journey.

When and why did you begin writing?

I have been writing since I was a little girl. Writing has always been a way for me to express my true feelings and thoughts without fear of judgement or censure. I started with short stories and poetry, which I still write now. I can't tell you the number of journals I've had over the years. When I first began writing my first book several years ago I was so worried someone would see what I was writing before it was ready that I wrote the entire first draft in Elder Futhark runes.

Tell us a little about yourself, what are the main life experiences that have led to this book?

In 2010, I learned about sigils. I was hooked instantly, and spent the next several years studying them, their creation, their uses, everything. What made them so fascinating to me was their similarities to bindrunes, which I was already using as a regular part of my practice. They soon became a mainstay of my craft side by side with my runes. This book is a culmination of all my research and personal experience that I want to share with others walking the crooked path.

Is this your first published piece or have you had work published before?

Your Complete Guide to Sigils and Bindrunes is my second published work and it is available for pre-order on Kindle Unlimited and is set to be released on May 15th of this year. My first book was published on April 5th of this year titled A Crooked Path Grimoire for the Solitary Witch.

Are you published or self published, and what has been your experience of this process?

I am self published through Amazon kdp. It has been a learning experience that's for sure. As a writer you don't tend to think about all the details of editing and publishing a book and I took a crash course lol. I will admit though that publishing my books myself has left me with a sense of completion and pride I'm not sure I would have otherwise.

How did the topic of your books come to you?

It's a subject that is very important to me. I use sigils and bindrunes on a regular basis in my practice. I've advised and helped others on an individual basis over the years and I wanted to share my knowledge with as many others as possible.

Who encourages/inspires you?

My grandmother's, Johnel Leonard and Claudie Lang, were the first women in my life to show me that strength comes in many shapes and sizes. They both encouraged me to follow my dreams. My mother, Vickie Craft, was also a huge inspiration for me no matter what life threw at her she never gave up.

Do we see some of you in your book?

You will see a lot of me in this book as about 50% of it comes from my own personal experience.

What, or who, do you enjoy reading?

JK Rowling, George RR Martin, Anne Rice to name a few of my favorite authors. I enjoy reading about the paranormal and supernatural and fantasy pretty much anything I can get lost in.

How long does it take you to write a book, are you a fast writer or a slow writer?

Well my 1st book took me the better part of 5 years to write and the another 2 years to get up the courage to publish. My 2nd book took me 2 years exactly to write and it will be published this May.

Do you plan your stories before you begin?

Yes I do plan them ahead of time to a point but once writing begins the book/story tends to take on a life of it's own.

Do you ever suffer from writer’s block and, if so, how do you overcome it?

I think writers block happens to everyone from time to time and I am no exception in my moments when I draw a complete blank and can't for the life of me decide what to write next I stop forcing it and I read a book just for fun or I'll play cards with my husband or watch reels on Facebook eventually my mind resets and fresh ideas or thoughts come forward and I'm ready to begin again.

What are your future plans for writing?

I am in the process of writing and researching my next book due to release on September 20th 2025
